Science Has Absolutely Proven There Is No God, Right?
So, LB11 exists to discuss truth about God and Christianity (Christian Apologetics). Some of you may have just read enough to say you’re out because there is no God, or if He does exist you have a major problem with the way things work around here. I respect why some of you may feel that way. Also, to reiterate up front, the discussion here is meant to be civil and respectful. While we may not agree on everything said in this space, let’s agree to hear each other out and respect each other’s intellect.
Some may say that science has disproven the existence of God. To that, I say, if you are intellectually honest (important concept here) you have to acknowledge the existence/non-existence of God is not a settled matter even in the scientific community. There are hundreds of highly educated and well respected scientists who believe that the best explanation of the evidence discovered by science to date points to the existence of God not away.
For now lets leave the scientists in the lab and lets just discuss logic for a moment. There was a time in my life when I also had questions about God. I want to relate something that challenged me, actually someone who challenged me. The conversation went something like this: BA (Beth Ann): So what do you believe about how we came to be here?
ME: Evolution
BA: OK so let’s just say it was evolution, were did the stuff come from that started everything?
ME: From the primordial soup?
BA: OK, So how do think that Earth came into existence?
ME: Big Bang.
BA: OK, Big Bang. So the universe had a starting point a beginning?
ME: I guess so, yes.
BA: So where did all of the elements/energy come from made the Big Bang possible?
ME: Ummm not sure?
BA: So “something” was created from “nothing”?
ME: Ummm let me get back to you on that…
BA: So when was the last time you have seen “something” spontaneously come into existence from nothing? You know how many times have you gone into the kitchen for a snack and when you came back there was a horse in your living room?
ME: Umm, to date, never.
BA: So where does that leave us?
ME: Ummm, let me get back to you on that…
So unless you’re prepared to argue that the universe has existed for eternity, which is kind of a non-answer to the question of how did the universe come to be, or, if you want to argue that something came into existence from nothing, which is not ever been observed/recorded by mankind, the only logical conclusion is that a pre-existing first cause is responsible for the creation of the universe. For practically all of recorded history the overwhelming majority of humans who have lived upon the earth have given this first cause a name, God.
