Say I Decide To Follow Jesus; How Much Of My Life Do I Have To Give Up?

So, hypothetically speaking, if I decided to become a Jesus follower what is the list of things that I have to give up?  I knew this question would come so I started thinking about this and it hit me that maybe we should look at this from the opposite point of view, what things can I keep doing so here’s a partial list of things that you get to keep doing if you decide to follow Jesus:

-Eating

-Working out

-Skydiving

-Shopping

-Golf

-Boating, motor and sailing

-Cruising

-Binge watching

-Skiing, water, downhill, but not cross country (JK)

-Skating, ice and roller

-Swimming

-Biking

-Riding Motorcycles, dirt and street

-Hiking

-Camping, both tent and RV

-Travel

-Horseback riding

-Flying

-Fishing

-Fly fishing (just checking to see if you’re still paying attention)

-Hunting

-Music

-Art

-Hanging out with friends

-Sports

-Photography

-Calligraphy

-Knitting

-Quilt making

-Movies

-Gaming

-Dance

Like I said partial list.

So what do I have to give up?  Short answer, anything that is harmful to either others and/or yourself.  The big hang up most folks have is whether something is really “harmful”.  So let’s look at a slightly longer list and see if you disagree that any of these things aren’t really harmful, lying, stealing, murder, character assassination, excessive eating, excessive drinking/drugs (Note some followers believe that all drinking is verboten but many others do not).   OK here’s the one that many folks will call outdated and prudish, sex outside of marriage.   To that I say research this issue from a purely scientific point of view and I think you will find that statistically marriages have a greater chance of survival when couples don’t cohabitate before marriage.  The First Cause intended sex to be exclusive, sex creates a physical and psychological bond that is very painful when broken.  What do most people think of “players”?  Does it matter if you were the one that was “played”?
