What Is The “Then What” Plan For Your Life?

As many of you may know, my wife and I own an RV and we have enjoyed some monster trips over the last few years.  These kind of trips (being on the road for 6 weeks) require extensive planning but the rewards are definitely worth it. I look forward to these trips every year and we usually start pre-planning months ahead of time.

What are your plans for upcoming vacations?  Hopefully you will be able to get away at least for a little while and rest/recreate do the things that bring you joy.  But even small getaways require some type of reservations and planning to be successful, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I love being spontaneous and its not like you need a whole lot of planning if you decide to go out for fast food/pizza but even a nice dinner and a movie probably require some advance planning, right?  Planning is a major part of being successful in almost all of our endeavors.  It’s a saying for a reason, failing to plan is planning to fail.

My wife and I were frequently made fun of by our friends for our “five year plans.” That said we all make some type of life plans.   We plan our careers, we plan for our families and we especially plan when it comes to our retirement, the golden years.  If we plan well and things go as planned we can look forward to that time when we don’t have to answer to the boss and enjoy some freedom.

OK now after setting such a pretty picture, one that I myself have started to enjoy, I need to ask you a question.  There are some who wont hear my heart on this when they see the question but let me tell you up front I ask this question from a caring heart, from a position of someone who is interested in your overall well-being, what is your post retirement plan?  So you say I want to travel, I want to play golf, I want to hang out with my grandkids.  Those all sound awesome, these are all things that I want to do as well.  But I must ask, then what?  You could say I plan to read, plan to play music, to do art.  Those sound great too, but again I must ask, then what?

You realize that you only get so many trips around the Sun, right?  Tomorrow is not promised.  I can hear the haters already, you are just trying to scare me.  If you are diagnosed with a fatal disease tomorrow, is the doctor just trying to scare you or are they telling you an objective truth?  Eventually, we don’t know when, we all shall depart this planet, that’s objective truth.

Whether you agree with me or not, from the moment of your conception you became an eternal being.  Where do you “plan” on spending eternity?  I’m convinced in this instance you get what you want/plan for.  So do you want (“plan”) to be with God or do you not want to be with Him?

Let me also say this, Billy Joel didn’t get it right.   In the total and complete absence of God (AKA Hell) there is a corresponding total and complete absence of anything good.   Think about that for a moment. There will be no community and certainly no laughter.  Have you ever been in a cave with no lights on?  I’m sure that’s where the phrase comes from it was so dark I couldn’t see my hand in front of my face.  Imagine being forever in a place where there is a complete and total absence of God/good. Being in an eternal prison riot would probably be better.  That’s the reality of being a place where there’s a complete and total absence of God.

Ready for some AWESOME news?  If you are reading this you still have time to “plan.”  God’s word tells us that all who sincerely seek Him on His terms will find Him.  God’s word also tells us that He is preparing a place for all who accept Him, some interpretations say we each get our own mansion.  At any rate it will be a place that’s completely filled with good, with God.  It will be better than we can conceive.

So, what’s your “plan”?  What “planning” are you helping your children with?

As always, thanks for taking your valuable time to read this.  I would love to hear anything you have to say about this post/website, the email address is lifeboat11min@gmail.com.
