IF There Is a God, What Does He Want From Me?

So, if there is a God, what does He want from me anyway?

He wants to be in relationship with you.  An ongoing, continuous, growing relationship.

That said, a true relationship is built on mutual interest, so He will entreat you but He will never force you, to believe in Him, or force you to love Him.  Think Jim Carey in Bruce Almighty.

So what makes you think that God wants to be in relationship with me?  OK since you asked, I have to go biblical on you.  It is probably the most quoted verse, and I bet you have run across it at least once:

“God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes on Him should not die but have eternal life.” John 3:16

So let’s unpack this a little.  Actually, there’s a lot of unpacking required but for now let’s just focus on the Son part.  Here it comes, you knew sooner or later I would say the “J” word…Jesus.

OK it’s on the table, yes, this is about Jesus.  Look below, I won’t take much of your time.

So let’s talk about Jesus.  I assume that it is almost universally accepted that a real man lived and walked the Earth a little over 2000 years ago in the Middle East, specifically Palestine. 

Also it is widely accepted that this man, Jesus, was executed by the Roman authorities via crucifixion, though I am told that the Muslim community may dispute how Jesus actually died.

So before we go any further can I ask why millions of people have even heard of someone who was executed 2000 years ago?  Can you name anyone else who was executed 2000 years ago?  Doesn’t it seem strange that you have even heard the name Jesus?

OK back to the main topic, Jesus.  So this is the most important question you will ever answer, so lean in, who do you say that Jesus is?

This is not original to me but I posit you only have three choices, Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or he was who he said he was, i.e. the Son of God.

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, but through me.”  John 14:6.  Wow that’s a pretty bold statement to make, no one comes to God without going through me.  I told you, the most important question you will ever answer is who is Jesus?

So I have two questions to ask you about this,: 

1. Why would any one go to their death for what they know to be a lie? It happened repeatedly, even Jesus’ brother who first thought he was insane later died claiming Jesus was God.  Check it out for yourself, please!  So speaking of checking this out leads to my second question.
2. What have you spent more time researching, your latest major purchase, or whether God exists and what that means?  Be honest!

So if there’s factual evidence that Jesus is the only person in history to raise himself from the dead (and there’s plenty of it, there really is)  I think He deserves some screen time, no?  

Here’s my challenge to you, (if you’ve read other posts you’ve heard this before) spend five minutes a day for the next week sincerely asking God that if He really exists to reveal Himself to you.  I would love to hear about the results of this experiment.
